Social Media

Social Media impacts my life greatly because I use social media as an opportunity to market my brothers. I use Instagram to post game day pictures and events in which my brothers have been invited. For example, my youngest brother was invited to the Baltimore Ravens Camp. He made this catch against two defenders (picture below) and he was playing in an older division. I also post pictures on Facebook using the #TeamDiggs. Presumably, my brothers and I don’t roam the same circles, so I use social media to market them to a new set of people. I figure I have done my job if I let one new person know about the Diggs brothers.

I don’t just use social media for personal use. My last internship was with Wootton High School Varsity Football. I used Instagram to post the game times with a picture that highlights the players. It was a great opportunity to work with such talented athletes and to showcase them each week. We were able to take an unknown school and make it a well-known school in Montgomery County. Last year, the head coach and Trevon Diggs were featured on the news. Social media is a powerful tool when trying to build recognition quickly.

League Ready

Now that football season is in full effect I'm excited to see the new stars of college football and their journey to the NFL draft. I have an opportunity to watch the draft process before my eyes as my younger brother is entering his Junior year at the University of Maryland. I have watched Stefon play football his entire life and I can say that it was never dull watching him play. Now that he plays Division 1 football, the game has become a little less enjoyable because the possibility of injury is very real. Football is a dangerous sport and one play could end your career. Those that are lucky enough to make it to the NFL still may be plagued by injury. Jadeveon Clowney was the number one pick during the draft last year and now he is out with a torn meniscus. It makes you wonder if there is something more that the college trainers could be doing to help players get ready for the league.

Green MSBA 2014

I am an intern for Sports+Plus in Bethesda, MD. So far I have completed a plethora of tasks. I am in charge of managing the fan mail of the Bryan Brothers who are professional doubles tennis players. I am researching the process for creating a nonprofit organization. The CEO of the organization is also affiliated with other organizations such as NYJTL and US Squash. NYJTL is a character development program that teaches under-served NYC youth life skills through tennis lessons. Squash is a sport that is similar to tennis in that it has a racket and ball, but instead of players being on opposite sides of the field the opponents are on the same side. I am looking for potential sponsors that would be interest in branching out into the tennis and/or squash world. Squash is gaining popularity in the United States, but it is not as well-known as tennis. As we educate more people about the game of squash hopefully American children will become interested in playing the sport. This was a short summary of my activities for the first week! I look forward to what this internship has in store for me over the course of the semester!
